Tips on being a Good Backpacker

Posted on May 10, 2012
Foods is Priority

As a backpacker, you must understand though that your health must be your priority when packing up your food. It would be very depressing if due to some health reasons, you would have to shorten your trips or go home earlier than expected. Thus, you have to consider the nutrients of the food you will bring along.

You will need foods that are high in calories. Surprisingly, most foods with high calorie content get to be the lightest foods to pack as well. Those with pure fats, proteins and low moisture carbohydrates tend to be high in calories. Nuts, granola bars, bread, fruits and veggies can be counted under this category.

There are specific foods though which you should not miss placing in your backpack. First in the list is olive oil. Olive oil by far is the healthiest of the oils which you can use as dip for your bread or any corn product. In fact, you can add a teaspoonful of it to any soup and it will magically keep you warm for hours should you be camping in a cool place. Fats naturally generate heat when digested.

Next are nuts and raisins. They are good sources of proteins, minerals and vitamins. More so, they can keep you from getting famished while hiking which is very convenient. Should you need extra energy to walk the extra mile, be sure that you have dried beans in your knapsack. They surely are energy boosters to a weary traveler. Pair your beans with instant coffee mix and you will have all your senses awake and ready for any emergency.

Finally, along with your generous supply of clean drinking water, pack away instant energy drinks. They are best for restoring the lost electrolytes back to your system.

Taking in consideration the climate in the place you'll be visiting is also part of the best backpacking food ideas. Perhaps, the country you have decided to explore has cool weather. Then, you would have to pack foods that will keep you not only full but also warm as you stroll along.

Choosing The Right Sleeping Bag For Camping

Me with my new Sleeping Bag

Sleeping bags are very important for a camper. This is where they can spend the night during their camping period. This is also where they can rest comfortably without being too exposed to the outdoor elements. This can also be a carrying bag when one is traveling. This is like carrying a tent in a bag. It is very convenient, easy to transport and useful. No camper should be without this equipment. However, it is important for a camper to choose the right sleeping tent to purchase. This is to make sure that they will be able to sleep comfortably even while they are in the outdoors. Here are some tips so that you will land on the right decision on which sleeping bag to purchase and use.

First of all, you must consider its weight. Keep in mind that you will be carrying too many stuffs and equipments. And you cannot afford to add more weight to your things. Choose a sleeping bag that is light weight and easy to carry. It should be comfortable and convenient to bring along. Another thing to think about is how much tolerance it can have with different temperatures. Some people would want to camp in mountains that are too cold. It is important that your sleeping bag can withstand cold and heat which will be helpful in protecting the camper from any bad weather.

The size will also be a factor to consider. If you are a tall person, then you cannot fit in a small sleeping bag. Make sure that you check on the size right away before purchasing it or you will be facing a big dilemma. Sleeping bags are present to make you feel comfortable while sleeping even when you are in the outdoors. If the bag does not fit your size, then you will not have a comfortable time sleeping. And lastly, make sure that the sleeping bag is water resistant. You would not want to sleep on a bed that is soaking with water, right? So, ask the store if it can resist water so that you will remain dry and comfortable while sleeping in the outdoors.

This can be crucial to the life of a camper. If they have purchased and used an incorrect choice, their camping experience will be affected. So, making the right choice should always be practiced. You should only buy your sleeping bags from known stores. Also, choose one that has a good and reputable brand. With this, you will never regret ever buying one. One of the known and well trusted brands is the Black Wolf sleeping bags. These are more preferred by many campers as they are giving them the best quality of products which campers can be able to make use of for a very long time. Known brands are more trustworthy as these are the ones often used by many campers around.

Departure from the hostel at 12:50 o'clock noon, and I walked to the station Gubeng Mboys warming, we thought initially miss the train because the schedule given by friends as passengers leave at 13 : 03 so that in the event of an accelerated warming let alone step foot into Roykan still widening. Roykan once stepped to me like a speed of 1.5, so my training is really like Nature Lover Organitation. Do not feel we have a quick trip to the station Gubeng at 13:10. After waiting some time, the counter opened 10 minutes before departure, had bought two tickets commuter Roykan number Rp4000, -. Promptly at 13:55 am commuting the train arrived and are ready to take us to the terminal Bungurasih.

Arriving at the bus station directly Bungurasih we seek majors Situbondo, it turns out we've become victims of irresponsible brokers. We took the bus NNR 2 people Rp26.000 usual fare, - I think it is really cheap to Besuki because the terminal is said that the bus will drop in Besuki, but when we pay the ticket will be placed in the terminal Probolinggo, we cheated. Arrive at the terminal at 17:30 Probolinggo we moved the bus to continue the journey to Besuki with Rp16.000 price for 2orang. That night around 19:40 hours, the bus down in front of police headquarters Besuki, after seeking permission from the duty officer, I take a shower, buying food while mboyz around Besuki square.

when buying food around Besuki square, Donny remembered childhood that often play into the square. As I recall childhood nostalgia, I surround the square while looking for a suitable dinner. After providing a wide selection of food, I finally fixed the fried rice. Immediately, I ordered 3 packs because I remember there was one father who slept in the mosque when we arrived at the police station Besuki. After purchasing nasgor pink, I rushed to buy our groceries ie lack of sugar, flashlight batteries, and film for Roykan pocket camera. Arriving at the mosque we eat directly nasgor police and iced tea, but the package handed over to the father who dtidur in the mosque so we're back to nasgor 2 it. After a full and play with our new friends who are wild cats, we are getting sleepy and rest of the journey is still long.

Mboys Expedition to The Top Mahameru June 28 - July 4, 2008 (Happy Ending)

From Kalimati to the peak of Mahameru we spend 3-6 hours, depend on the weather, numbers of climbers and dust. a big number of climber can produce huge dust a long the journey and slow down the move because an narrow trail is difficult to the climber to pass the others. Usually the climbers start in the mid night and reach the peak till dawn, enjoy the sunrise. One hour climbing from Kalimati, we come in Arcopodo, Now the twins statues here are missing. The trail is narrow, stepy, and dusty. The deep valley in the left and in the right side through the woodland. The next journey is an open area with sandy, stepy and dusty. Hoping a good weather stay with us. One step we walk, a half feet we go down and burried in the sand. A cloudy night or fogs can make the sight not so clear. A storm can be so dangerous to contonue to the peak. In the top of the mountain, called Mahameru, We can enjoy an unforgettable and fantastic panorama towards many peaks of East Java, coasts and seas, and sunrise in the east horizon. The climbers must wait an exploded crater to take a picture. Before 9 AM the climbers must leave the peak, because the explosion toward to the peak, bring poison, sand, stone, ash, and dust.

We better start from Ranu Kumbolo in the early morning. After one hour, we will enter woodland of casuarina trees. Sometimes we can see wild birds and wild cocks. A mouse deer can be found too, in the far away. So watch the trail carefully.
